Twisted PathsThe newest episode of the Hitman was released recently, marking the start of the Season 4. The download is large, at about 67 MB, but considering this installment is nearly twenty minutes, and at a 512kb/s quality, it’s not too surprising.

Starting with technical highlights, I was impressed with the new picture of the White House, and was pleased to see that it was panned up. The set for the Libyan Chemical Weapons Facility looked very realistic, with perfect lighting. And as always, the music was wonderful.

(Warning: possible, vague, pseudo-semi-spoilers may follow)

As far as the story line goes, to be honest, the continued dig into Red Fox’s “dark side,” doesn’t really thrill me. It is quite difficult to make the mental transition from him being the hero, to almost becoming the tragic hero. This episode, however, gives us some insight to the possible cause of Avery’s behavior, and may even give a good reason for it. In a dream of happenings five years ago, he has the following dialogue.

Friend: …what I usually tell myself is there’s gotta be something out there that’s bigger than all this.
Fox: You believe that?
Friend: On good days…

Thanks to this talk with Fox and Friend(s), we discover that our hero doesn’t seem to be a Christian, at least at that point in time. My personal guess is that we are having this darkness in order to eventually bring him to Christianity. If that’s the case, our hero’s mistakes are for a good cause, and I don’t mind bearing with them.

My favorite section was probably the “he hasn’t even been on a date!” banter towards the end. More excellent acting comes in Senate Sub-Committee, with humor, drama, and even a neat look back at the Iraq war.

You can download the file at the Streaming Media Network page, and there’s other great commentary at the Real Director (the official fan blog).
